Safety Course Final Reminders

Dear all,
Please find a few last-minute reminders and tips for your Border Guns Practical Shotgun Safety Course this weekend:

1) Please remember that over the course of the weekend you will be firing 300 to 350 cartridges; ensure that you have enough ammunition of the right type (fibre wad only) with you. You will be assessed throughout the weekend but your final test will be the most significant factor in determining your course completion status; you don’t want to run out of ammunition towards the end of the course.

2) It is a good idea for new shooters to use the lightest load possible for their gun; too often students who aren’t used to shooting hundreds of rounds in a day ignore this advice and I am sad to say that on at least two occasions we have seen (typically lighter-framed students) retire early from the course due to bruising and discomfort. 21g/24g cartridges are perfectly adequade for knocking down metal targets and they are much more forgiving; if your gun will cycle with light cartridges they are a good option.

3) Please remember that NO camouflage clothing is to be worn on the course; neither military style “DPM” nor civilian style hunting camouflage such as RealTree etc. Unless you are serving in the armed forces.

4) We may well see some rain this weekend so bring clothes which will keep you warm and dry. If you bring a hat it must be compatible with your ear and eye protection. You may wish to consider a jacket or coat which can be worn over your ammunition belt so it can be easily removed for your turn shooting and then easily replaced.

5) Starting time is strictly 09:15 but we’d love to see you a little earlier than that for coffee and biscuits. There will be quite a few students on the course and it is essential that we get started on time, especially on Sunday when we will want to finish on time for the sake of those who have a long journey home. It will not be possible to wait for latecomers so it is vital that you are able to get on site promptly. If you know you are going to be delayed for any reason please let Martin know by calling the land line number 01588 640 002.
At the risk of sounding officious it is not possible to successfully complete the course without having satisfactorily passed the whole of the course so timely arrival is essential; we don’t want to start without you. In return we will do our utmost to complete the day’s tasks on time to leave the opportunity for any further questions or simply a dash back to the warmth of your B&B’s hot shower.

Kind Regards
Martin and Jo Davies
